Share the Love – #Writers
When an opportunity to support so many writer friends at one time presented itself, I jumped at the chance. Before I share the love, Margot Kinberg popped by to tell us about a fun project to celebrate women writers on International Women’s Day …
Thanks so much, Sue! I appreciate your helping me get the word out about a special project I’m putting together.
What’s it all about?
It’s all about International Women’s Day, which will be 8 March, 2019. I’m planning a special salute to all of the great women writers who create excellent stories. If you’re a woman writer, you can be a part of it!
So what’s this salute going to be?
A group of us who are women writers will get together virtually to show our pride and speak out. I promise – no travel required, no expense, and no complicated technology. And no political agenda, either, other than that we’re proud to be women writers.
Wait a minute! I don’t write crime fiction! I write something else. Can I still be involved?
You sure can! No genre restrictions here!
What’s in it for me?
It’s going to be fun! And it gives you the chance to show your pride (and highlight your books(s)). Also, I’ll be including a list of all the participants and their websites, which will hopefully mean you get lots of traffic and interest in your writing.
Sounds interesting, but I want to know more.
Absolutely! I don’t want to give all the details publicly, because I want it to make a big impact on International Women’s Day. So….if you want to know more, please drop me an email at margotkinberg(at)gmail(dot)com, and I’ll give you all of the details you need.
C’mon, sit with the cool kids! Contact me and I’ll be happy to include you! I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks again, Sue!
And now, it’s time to Share the Love …
They Said It Was a Tragedy. They Said It Was an Accident. They Lied.
Second Chance is a Philadelphia alternative school designed for at-risk students. They live on campus, they take classes, and everyone hopes they’ll stay out of prison. And then one of them dies. When Curtis Templeton falls from a piece of scaffolding near the school, it’s called a tragic accident. A damned shame. A terrible loss. And everyone moves on.
Two years later, former police detective-turned-professor Joel Williams and two of his colleagues do a study of Second Chance for a research paper. When they find out about Curtis’ death, they start asking questions. And no-one wants to answer them.
The search for the truth takes Williams and his research partners behind the scenes of for-profit alternative education – and straight into the path of someone who thought everything would stay buried.
In the meantime, changes are coming to Tilton University. The School of Social Sciences is going to be the new home of a center for research on juvenile offenders. But not everyone is happy about it. YouthPromises, the company that’s underwriting the center, is a for-profit alternative program that has a stake in the outcome of any research the center does. What will that mean for the faculty? Williams finds himself caught in the controversy over the center, just as he’s finding out the truth about Second Chance.

Natalia Mayne said, “What’s the first rule?”
“Fear nothing,” I said.
“You have any more?”
“Do unto them before they do unto you.”
“Really?”
”And you don’t owe the truth to people who lie.”
“I’ve never met anybody like you.”
“I’ve heard that before.”

TO A MAFIA BOSS, BLOOD MATTERS MORE THAN ANYTHING…
EVEN MORE THAN THE SON HE SPENT FIFTEEN YEARS RAISING AS HIS OWN.
When a DNA test reveals an accidental hospital baby-switch fifteen years prior, two teenage boys find their lives upside down and their futures uncertain. Against his will, Nicholas Cooper is abruptly transplanted from his idyllic vineyard home to the crime-ridden streets of Providence. His biological father — none other than notorious crime boss Vinnie “Cocktails” Merlino — has big plans to retake control of Cuba’s once-flourishing casino scene… and those plans include his rightful heir standing by his side.
As Nick grows ever more deeply enmeshed in Vinnie’s violent underworld, he unwittingly becomes the focus of a Central Intelligence Agency investigation, led by new recruit Hannah Summers. From the colorful streets of Havana to the snow-capped trails of upstate New York… through blood rites, flying bullets, Belizean jungles, and family betrayals…BLOOD SONS poses the ultimate question of nature versus nurture. Does the blood in your veins determine the man you’ll become?

The truth hides in dark places . . .
Recently settled in Hode’s Hill, Pennsylvania, Maya Sinclair is enthralled by the town’s folklore, especially the legend about a centuries-old monster. A devil-like creature with uncanny abilities responsible for several horrific murders, the Fiend has evolved into the stuff of urban myth. But the past lives again when Maya witnesses an assault during the annual “Fiend Fest.” The victim is developer Leland Hode, patriarch of the town’s most powerful family, and he was attacked by someone dressed like the Fiend.
Compelled to discover who is behind the attack and why, Maya uncovers a shortlist of enemies of the Hode clan. The mystery deepens when she finds the journal of a late nineteenth-century spiritualist who once lived in Maya’s house—a woman whose ghost may still linger. Known as the Blue Lady of Hode’s Hill due to a genetic condition, Lucinda Glass vanished without a trace and was believed to be one of the Fiend’s tragic victims. The disappearance of a young couple, combined with more sightings of the monster, trigger Maya to join forces with Leland’s son Collin. But the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she comes to a hidden world of twisted secrets, insanity, and evil that refuses to die . . .

Life, love, and a few dead bodies. Just another day in LA.
One year ago, Alan and Stacey Navarro underwent a painful separation, leaving their daughter, Ruby, to live with her mom and an over-caffeinated Shih Tzu named Ed Wood. People split up all the time, and most kids might get over it, providing they can still Snapchat. Not Ruby. A bright, funny fourteen-year-old who loves shoes and horror movies, she is on an insane mission to get her parents back together. But she can’t do it alone. She needs her two best friends, her dog, an arrogant filmmaker, a bizarre collection of actors, and a chainsaw-wielding movie killer. What could possibly go wrong?
Chainsaw Honeymoon is “hysterical fiction” and like nothing you’ve ever read. There’s romance, drama, and a creepy talking doll called Mr. Shivers. Cutting a breakneck, jagged swath across present-day Los Angeles, this book hurls flaming balls of movies, music, horror, and comedy-like some kind of possessed pitching machine. Is this real life? Better ask Ruby.

Imagine waking up in the desert with no idea what happened to you. You have clear memories of situations and places, but a complete loss in personal matters… like your own name. This situation is bad, and you have no idea how to get home.
When you’re rescued by a talking yak, the situation gets exponentially worse. You’ve obviously lost your mind. The immediate needs of a ride off the salt pan and searing heat, along with a drink of water, outweigh the concerns about your mental state.
This is exactly what happened to the Yak Guy. In fact he’s been placed in an alternate world and given a chance to start over in life.
Can this selfish, almost parasitic, young man learn to start over in a world where charity is hard to find? Life is brutal and short here, but he’s going to have to adapt or perish.
The Yak Guy project is loosely based around The Fool’s Journey from the Tarot. Those with experience in Tarot will spot people and situations from the Major Arcana.

Protection is safety. Until it stifles.
After months of clandestine battles, the Brothers of the Medici Protectorate finally know who is responsible for the assassination attempts on the Notaro family, the secret descendants of the Medici line. And they’ve never faced such a formidable foe.
Roberto Cozza—Coz—faces this new reality with surprising pragmatism. His powers may make the difference in winning their covert war—if only he can master them in time. It would just be so much easier if he could get his emotions under control, but neither his Brothers nor their charges are making things easy on him.
Toni Notaro appreciates the security provided by the Brothers, but she knows she has her own role to play—and it terrifies her. She is the missing link in Coz mastering his emerging abilities, yet she struggles to bridge the gap between what he needs and what she can offer.
As the Brotherhood hurtles inexorably toward the climactic final showdown, Coz and Toni must find the strength within themselves and each other to master the secrets of his powers, or risk death and defeat for all they hold dear.

All this talent in one place! Don’t they all sound amazing? I hope you’ll give a new-to-you author a try, or snuggle in with one of your favorites. Either way, you can’t go wrong with any of these titles. They’re all on my TBR list. 🙂

Thanks, Col!
Soooz
This is such a list of great talent, Sue! I’ve read and enjoyed several of these authors and my TBR list is now threatening to divorce me as I’ve added several others.
Sue Coletta
Threatening to divorce you … Hahahaha. Happy reading, Soooz!
Jacquie Biggar
This is a great list! I’ve read some, and now I have a few new ones to choose from 🙂

Don’t they all sound amazing, Jacquie? I wish I could stop working to read them now. 😉

Hi Sue,
Thanks so much for including INSTRUMENT OF THE DEVIL! I feel as if I’ve been invited to sit at the cool kids’ table, surrounded by such talent.
BTW, am reading SCATHED right now and you’re scaring me. Oh that’s right–you mean to do that!
Sue Coletta
You ARE a cool kid, Debbie! My pleasure, truly. <3
Hahaha. I always ask my editor, "Did you find it scary?" Because I can never tell. Honestly, I just tell the story. The Grafton County Series, however, has a darkness that burrows under my skin. Can't explain it any other way. Happy reading! 😉
Mae Clair
Sue, thanks so much for including me with so many wonderful sounding books. I’ve read The Yak Guy Project by C. S. Boyack and Staci Troilo’s Tortured Soul. Both are excellent. And by reviewing the other authors featured here, I see I need to look into a few other titles. Of for more hours in the day to read, LOL!
Also many thanks to those who mentioned Cusp of Night in their remarks. Hearing feedback like that definitely motives an author. Happy Monday and thanks for sharing, Sue!
Sue Coletta
My pleasure, Mae! I wouldn’t dream of sharing the love without you, either. More hours in the day? Indeed! If only we could read full-time … 😉
CS Boyack
Really appreciate your comment, Mae.
Harmony Kent

Sue Coletta
My pleasure, Staci! <3
CS Boyack
Thanks for including me, Sue. That’s a long TBR list, but it sounds like a fun one.
Sue Coletta
Of course! I wouldn’t dream of sharing the love without featuring at least one of your awesome books, Craig. Love your writing. My TBR list is gargantuan, but it’s fun to tackle … one book at a time.
CS Boyack
Oh, and I fixed the link on my “reblog.” Hope to drive some traffic this direction.
Sue Coletta
I didn’t even realize the reblog link wasn’t right. Thank you! The more traffic the better. 🙂 I’ll be over in a few. Need to catch up, anyway.
Priscilla Bettis
All of these book blurbs sound great! I have already read Mae Clair’s Cusp of Night and enjoyed it (and got a little spooked!), so I’m excited to read the sequel when it comes out in 2019.
Sue Coletta
Don’t they, Priscilla? As I was putting this post together, the blurbs blew me away. If only there were more hours in the day!
I’m looking forward to diving into Mae’s new series. Cusp of Night is on my Kindle along with all the other amazing books listed here. 🙂
Staci Troilo
Cusp of Night is awesome, and the second is already available for pre-order. I’ve had a sneak peek at it, and I have to say, it’s fantastic.
The only other title you listed here that I’ve read is THE YAK GUY, and I loved it. Boyack always writes fascinating stories.
Some of the other names I recognize. (Who doesn’t know and respect JSB?) This is a great list, Sue. I’m honored to be part of it.
Sue Coletta
I adore Boyack’s creativity. His books are always a joy a read.
I asked a few Kill Zone author pals to join us (JSB being one, and yes, I agree!). So many of their books are on my reading list. Isn’t Laura’s gif cover the coolest?
I wouldn’t dream of sharing the love without you, Staci. <3 Plus, I need to catch up with your Medici Series!
CS Boyack
Thanks for the testimonial over here. Means a lot to me.
